ABSORPTION COOLING
PRODUCT GROUPS

Thermax is one of the leaders in vapour absorption cooling and heating systems. Thermax chillers are extensively used worldwide for industrial refrigeration, air conditioning, process cooling and heating. Our absorption cooling and heating business offers an extensive range of chillers that use waste heat from steam, hot water, thermic fluid, exhaust gases and other fuels. True to our organistion’s vision, our technology uses natural green refrigerant i.e. ‘Water’. Avoiding the use harmful refrigerants like CFCs, we make our eco-friendly absorption systems a natural choice for industries and organisations that opt for green technology.
Thermax innovative and energy efficient heat recovery-based cooling and heating solutions help our customers to reduce their dependency on grid power and generate utilities like chilled water and hot water for process applications. This helps to reduce the overall carbon footprint and make operations cost effective and sustainable.
Specialised applications like inlet air-cooling with Thermax chillers are improving the output and productivity in core sectors like fertilizers, refineries, petrochemicals etc. Thermax chillers integrate well with efficient energy setups such as cogeneration and combined heating, cooling and power (CHPC) systems. Thermax’s unique heating and cooling solution accommodate a wide range of industrial & commercial applications spread over 90 countries – USA, Brazil, Europe, UK, Russia, Middle East, South East Asia, Africa and China, among others. Thermax’s Quality Management System is ISO 9001certified and accredited by UKAS.

Product Features
Thermax is a leading manufacturer of steam-driven absorption cooling systems. Thermax steam absorption chiller units are widely used worldwide for industrial cooling, HVAC, process cooling, and heating applications. Within the scope of absorption heating and cooling, we offer a wide range of chiller solutions utilizing waste steam, hot water, thermal oil, exhaust gases, and other fuel sources.
In line with our vision, the technology we offer uses water as a natural and green refrigerant. Since harmful refrigerants such as CFCs are not used, our environmentally friendly chiller systems are a natural choice for those aiming to utilize green energy.
Key Advantages
-
Sub-zero Cooling Capability – With its unique technology, Thermax machines can achieve outlet temperatures down to 1°C in water and -5°C in brine.
-
Zero Crystallization Design – Online concentration measurement and control protect the machine from adverse operating conditions and prevent crystallization.
-
Advanced Series Flow Cycle – The series flow cycle prevents corrosion formation within the machine.
-
Online Concentration Measurement and Control – A dedicated concentration monitoring and control system ensures operational safety.
-
Marine-Type Water Boxes – Water boxes located on the absorber and condenser are marine-type, allowing easy access to tube bundles without disconnecting piping.
-
Plate Heat Exchangers – Plate heat exchangers increase heat recovery and significantly reduce required heat input compared to conventional shell-and-tube exchangers.
-
Tube Metallurgy – Thermax VAM tube metallurgy is customized and enhanced according to water quality to prevent tube erosion. Titanium and stainless steel tubes are available for highly corrosive waters such as seawater.
-
Ferritic Stainless Steel Tubes – These tubes have thermal expansion coefficients close to carbon steel, resulting in much lower thermal stress compared to copper or copper alloy tubes. They are used in steam and hot water circuits.
-
High Temperature Differential in Chilled Water Applications – Temperature differences of up to 30°C can be achieved.
-
Acceptable Minimum Cooling Water Temperature – Thermax machines can operate with cooling water temperatures as low as 10°C.
-
Corrosion Inhibitors – Thermax machines use next-generation Lithium Molybdate, which is more effective than conventional lithium nitrate and lithium chromate. Lithium nitrate may produce ammonium nitrate, which can be harmful to the machine.
-
Isolation Valves on Pumps for Minimum Downtime – Isolation valves on connected pumps allow maintenance without breaking vacuum, minimizing downtime.
-
Two-Stage Evaporation Technology – Provides the lowest specific fuel consumption while reducing cooling tower water usage and saving water.
-
Split Evaporator Design – This special design significantly improves efficiency.
-
Gravity Feed System – Thermax machines use a gravity-fed, pressureless super-spray system for refrigerant and absorbent distribution, eliminating the need for nozzles that may clog, wear, or deteriorate.
-
High-Efficiency Online Purge System – Non-condensable gases generated during operation are continuously discharged into the storage tank, maintaining low vacuum levels and consistent performance.
-
10%–100% Stepped Modulation – Chilled water temperature can be maintained at variable loads ranging from 10% to 100% of design capacity.
-
Single Exhaust Machine Driven by Multiple Engines – A single machine can be used for heat recovery from multiple engines, preventing mixing of exhaust gases and back pressure.
-
Maximum Heat Recovery from Exhaust Gases – Exhaust gases from natural gas engines can be cooled down to 130°C, and from diesel engines down to 180°C, ensuring maximum system efficiency.
-
Automatic Purging – The automatic purge system eliminates the need for periodic checks of purge tank pressure and purge system operation. (Optional Feature)
